As with many professional associations in Canada, the formation of our learned society required that a set of By-laws be developed. This was done for the initial launch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering in 1976. The By-laws of CIMarE, dated 1994, were updated in 2010 by approval of our members in a referendum. They were updated again in 2013 as required by the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. These bylaws are not substantively different from those passed in 2010. The members were consulted extensively and their input was solicited, well in advance of the meeting.
The background of this change is described in an Information circular issued by National Council in August, 2012.
At the 2016 annual general meeting, members voted unanimously to approve revised bylaws (click here) that include the definition of a corporate member, a newly introduced membership category.
