As with many professional associations in Canada, the formation of our learned society required that a set of By-laws be developed. This was done for the initial launch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering in 1976. The By-laws of CIMarE, dated 1994, were updated in 2010 by approval of our members in a referendum. They were updated again in 2013 and again in 2019 as required by the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. There were no substantive changes with one exception related to the class of membership for corporations. The members were consulted extensively and their input was solicited, well in advance of the meeting.
At the 2019 Annual General Meeting, members voted unanimously to approve revised bylaws that include the removal of the membership category for corporate member.
